INSPO || Lessons from my first 2019 reads

Hello Royalty.

Happy New Year! The year, 2019, has only just started, but it has been amazing! Not a lot of activity yet, TBH the farthest I have stepped out is to take the trash out. I’ve been indoors for the past four days, but I think I’m stepping out today.* However, it’s been great on the intellectual/mental side. I started the year with an indescribable thirst for knowledge – more than I have ever had. This year, I’m reading all the books I’ve always wanted to read. I bought most of them last year, and some of them have been in my carts for God-knows-how-long.

Anyways, let’s get to the gist. My first book for the year is Otegha Uwagba’s Little Black Book: A Toolkit for Working Women. I like books that are page-turners and this is one of them. It’s a compilation of tips and tricks on how to live a well-rounded life as a working woman. These tips apply to everyone, I believe, but a focus on women is the author’s niche. This is not a review, so let’s get to a few lessons instead.

Uwagba says,

  • Try starting your working day an hour earlier – true and true. I’ve done this a few times in the past, and each time I do so, it works. It enhances productivity and makes you less stressed. More of this in 2019.
  • Resist the temptation to check your emails or social media accounts first thing in the morning, as you run the risk of falling down an Internet rabbit hole – if you cannot relate to this, then you either have no phone or no social media. I have been tempted and I have fallen countless times, so I know what she is talking about. Again, on days where I avoid temptation, it is indeed a power day. So, yes to more of this in 2019.
  • Perfectionism is the enemy of progress. A-HA! Where are my fellow perfectionists? 2018 taught me this lesson well. Practice, learn, unlearn, relearn, and allow yourself to grow. As she says, “done is better than perfect.”
  • When it comes to money, know your worth! I learnt to negotiate in 2018, and it helped me understand myself better. It also helped me resolve to raise my standards in my work. So, go ahead and know your worth. Don’t settle for less.
  • Network. This has been overflogged all over the internet, and I have caught myself wondering the necessity. But trust me, it’s a gem. No matter how small, expand your network. If you are not sure how to go about it, do what I do: pray for healthy and right relationships. Pray to God to connect you to destiny helpers. Also pray to find people whose helper you are. Get the gist?

I also started reading the Bible this year, and I mean a Bible plan. I found one on the YouVersion Bible App. It’s the “Bible in One Year 2019 with Nicky Gumbel” plan, and it is flexible. Another plan you could use if you’re thinking of starting is a fellow blogger’s plan which can be found HERE. So far, here are a few lessons from my study:

  • The Christian life is battles and blessings…battles and blessings…battles and blessings…
  • It’s never late for God to use you. Noah was 600 years old when he built the ark.
  • Remember when Noah built the ark and God instructed him to take male and female animals in. In the same way, I learnt that the future is not female, neither is it male. Contrary to popular opinion, the future is male and female – both genders have a dominion mandate.
  • Human beings are the pinnacle of God’s creation (I wrote a little poem about this yesterday).

Lastly, I started reading 31 Days of Prayer for Your Future Husband by Tiffany Langford, as I shared on Instagram. It is an amazing book. A version men could read is 31 Prayers for my Future Wife by Aaron and Jeniffer Smith.

The lessons? Err…

PRAY FOR YOUR FUTURE OR CURRENT SPOUSES.

Sample prayer?

Heavenly Father, today I ask that you would guard the heart of my future husband. Guard his mind from negativity, guard his eyes from perverseness, and guard his heart from anything that is not of you. I pray that He would be rooted and established in love. When you bring us together I pray that we would guard each other’s hearts diligently. Let Him love you faithfully and cry out to you in every circumstance. In Jesus name, Amen.

Goodbye Royalty,

With Overflowing Love,

Alexandra Zion.

*just got back. I went out! Yay!
