Life Lately x Let’s Talk About Laziness

Hello Royalty!

Whew! It has been three months since we got talking here, and I’m excited to be here once again! How have you been?!!! Excited? Moving ahead with those 2019 goals? Feeling stuck? Whatever it is, remember you have all the strength you need for the phase you’re in. So, let’s get to it! The past three months have been pretty awesome – rollercoaster ish, but amazing amazing. While I was not on the blog writing, I was involved with writing spoken word poems, academic papers, more and more poems, newsletters (the responses were the best!), and my debut novel. But before we get to that, let’s talk about what I had in mind for today – the topic: LAZINESS!

It was a random day; I was scrolling through my YouVersion Bible App, and I noticed Proverbs 19:24 in the NLT. It said, “Lazy people take food in their hand but don’t even lift it to their mouth.” I stopped in my tracks. Wait, what? I knew I had to break stuff down here, so I began to.

Food can refer to resources, provisions, and opportunities. “Lift”, in this sense, is the work and effort involved in whatever we do. “Mouth” is the goal, channel, or window of investment. Here’s the catch: the food that doesn’t get to the mouth will not nourish the body. This verse reminded me of my nephews and nieces. As babies, it is the responsibility of the adults to pick up the food and feed them with their hands. However, it gets to a point where the adult begins to say to the child, “Here. Hold your bottle.” As they begin to wean off the bottle, first, the adult feeds them with a spoon. Later, the adult puts the food in a plate and on a tray and puts them in a particular place to feed themselves. Of course, they’ll make a mess, but at some point, they’ll eat just enough as is good for them.

Now, back to Proverbs, when we look at it closely, we see it takes a conscious effort to make use of one’s resources by putting in effort and channeling that through a certain means to see the desired result. The crux of it all is the lifting of the hand to the mouth. According to the Scripture here, the food is already in the hand i.e. opportunities are everywhere, but we do not all make use of them. The decision to make use of those opportunities is what makes the journey great.

Today, examine a few things on your own:

  1. What’s your food?
  2. Where’s your hand?
  3. Where’s your mouth?
  4. What’s the nourishing goal?

I worked with these tips these past few months, and they have actually worked. You should try it out! Okay, those are my two cents! Let’s get to the second aspect of the blogpost today.

Life Lately

On life lately, summer was fun in August, and by fun, I mean I did two things in the same week that were kind of out of the box for me. First I attended the second-tier of Bible School in church. It was an intense week of classes and growth. We were in on Monday through Friday from 7:30am – 6pm, and it was just full-length stretch of amazingness. I loved it. It stretched me, but I loved it! Over time, I’ll share a few lessons here on the blog – it should be a crime to keep that much goodness to one’s self, yeah? Also pree those pictures from Bible School’s graduation.

The Saturday after Bible School was an adventurous one. I went zip lining with a few friends. Fun fact is I was so tense, but it felt good to be doing such an awesome thing for the first time. It was really amazing. Check out the unfiltered video below!

Best of all, thank you for your listening ears and committed reads!

Goodbye Royalty,

With Overflowing Love,

Alexandra Zion.
