Warrior Woman: a poem

Hello Royalty.

It’s that time of the week. It’s #FictionFriday! And today, we have a poem on board.

I wrote this specifically for the ladies and the women (sorry men). I actually had a different poem for today already written and ready for publishing, but this just popped. It’s prett short and I hope you read and enjoy.

Warrior Woman

My eyelids popped open

And my feet hit the floor

“She’s up again.” Some whispered,

A wave of disgust

Streaming from their scleras

“All hail the Queen!” Some chorused,

The lovers and haters alike

But what cares I?

Even if they wink their noses

And twist their lips

With confidence,

I put one foot

Ahead of the other

My forehead made stronger

Than all of theirs put together

“I’m ready for battle” I say,

“And I’m sure of victory.”

Yesterday night, I stayed up late with a friend (her name is Praise) and we were watching a sermon by Funke Felix-Adejumo. She is an amazing woman; I was so blessed listening to her and I felt so much pride in being a woman. I slept happy and with queenly thoughts in my head. I guess that’s what in some way, translated into this poem this morning.

I also use this medium to celebrate Nigeria’s first female novelist, Flora Nwapa. She would have been 86 today but her literature definitely lives on here on earth.

Have a wonderful day and weekend. See you tomorrow for #StyleSaturday and if you haven’t subscribed to all of the spice in here so you can get more of this awe-inspiring posts in your inbox, please do that by scrolling down and putting in your email address or by responding to that pop up. *wink*

Goodbye Royalty,

With Overflowing Love,

Alexandra Zion.
