Bunnies, Cross Buns and Eggs: What really is the Easter Story?

Hello Royalty!

Happy Happy Easter!

I woke up this morning in high spirits and at about 5 ish, I was trying to get a scripture in Luke that I had read earlier this morning in a picture quote form on Instagram. While at it, I started thinking of Easter eggs and why most Westerners celebrate Easter with eggs. As a Nigerian, you bet that does not happen down here – at least 96% of the time lol.

So I got on Google and started surfing. I found out incredible things that got me thinking, “I got to post on the blog today!”

 Let’s start with Easter Eggs

Before the birth of Christianity itself, eggs were a symbol of Spring. Once winter was over, eggs were used to celebrate the new ‘refreshing’ dawn. At the advent of Christianity, eggs became a symbol of rebirth. Then the Mesopotamians, a community of Christians, used to stain eggs red to symbolise the blood of Christ. You know another interesting thing, eggs are used to celebrate Easter because the empty shells represent the tomb that Jesus left behind. Till this day, sometimes the eggs are rolled in some parts of the world representing the rolling away of the tomb of Jesus.

Then on to Easter Bunnies:

I think bunnies are cute. Don’t you?

So in traditional German literature, the Easter hare was a harbringer of chocolate goodies for well behaved children. This evolved from fiction books and stuck as a tradition, hence it is believed that Easter eggs are delivered by the Easter bunny.

Also, I realised that in ancient tradition, bunnies were used as a symbol of fertility. How interesting.

Now, Hot Cross Buns:

This blew my mind the most. I personally love hot cross buns…I could eat 8 in a row. (*covers face*). Then I realised that the buns are used to mark the end of the celebration of Lent. Then guess what? The cross on top of the buns represent the cross of Jesus Christ and the spices on it are to remind Christians of the spices put on Christ’s body.

And to the real story, which is not just a story: THE RESURRECTION

So the man Jesus loved you before you even knew what love is. He took upon Him all of your past, present and future sins and He chose to die the death that you would have died because the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23), and now, you no longer die to sin but as long as you believe in the salvation of Christ, all, and I assure you, ALL of your sins are washed away by the precious blood of Jesus God and now you belong to Him – the Resurrection and the Life!

Jesus is amazing and the best thing you can do for yourself is to make Him your PERSONAL Lord and Saviour!

Again, Happy Easter!
