FAITH || You Were Made to Walk on Water

Hello Royalty.

We have come to the end of January, and quite a number of events have taken place here and there, and in everything, we give thanks! Today’s post is inspired by one of my Bible Study sessions in the course of the month. It’s from a part of the Bible that we are pretty much familiar with – Matthew 14:22-33.

So what happened here? In the previous verses before today’s main verse, Jesus had just finished giving food to the thousands of people who had come to see him. Everyone was filled to the brim, and it was time to go. So, Jesus dismissed the people and his disciples. He told the people to go home and he told the disciples to go to the other side of the lake in a boat. What about Jesus, you say? He went to pray and he did that all night. What next? Here’s what the Bible says:

24 But the disciples, who were now in the middle of the lake, ran into trouble, for their boat was tossed about by the high winds and heavy seas.

25 At about four o’clock in the morning, Jesus came to them, walking on the waves!

26 When the disciples saw him walking on top of the water, they were terrified and screamed, “A ghost!”

27 Then Jesus said, “Be brave and don’t be afraid. I am here!”

Matthew 12:24-27 TPT

Now, when I read this, I almost feel that the feeding event before this boat event was a way in which Jesus told everyone, including the disciples, that he could do the impossible and there was no need to worry.

However, here’s Peter, our brother, who does just what we will do. The boat was tossing and turning; the waves were ready for a rollercoaster ride, and of course, the disciples could see death staring them in the face. I love Jesus’ first words, “Be brave and don’t be afraid. I am here!” Isn’t this what he tells us everytime we think we have come to the end of ourselves? How do we reply? Like Peter! Look at this:

28 Peter shouted out, “Lord, if it’s really you, then have me join you on the water!”

29 Come and join me,” Jesus replied. So Peter stepped out onto the water and began to walk toward Jesus.

Matthew 11:28-29 TPT

How similar to how we would say, “Lord, if you are really here and if you really care, then join me in this broken marriage”. “If you are really the Great Provider and you live inside of me, why can’t I afford that one thing?” We go on and on with all that is not working out in our lives. BUT, Do you realize in verse 29 that Jesus does not even take offense? He simply says, “Come and join me”. In other words, “come over to my side where trust lives and faith thrives”. What happened next? Peter began to walk on water!

Amazing, innit? The impossible became possible and everything was great as Peter kept his gaze on the Savior. How about verse 30?

30 But when he realized how high the waves were, he became frightened and started to sink. “Save me, Lord!” he cried out.

31 Jesus immediately stretched out his hand and lifted him up and said, “What little faith you have! Why would you let doubt win?”

Matthew 12:30-31 TPT

How did he go from 0-100? How did Peter walk on water in one minute, then sink the next minute? His focus changed. For a while, he realized that he was really unstoppable and that even the rollercoaster waves had nothing on him. However, he soon looked again at his natural estate, forgot about the supernatural, and allowed these waves to distract him. Guess what? He began to sink.

Sounds like you? Definitely sounds like me. But each day I’m learning and I am even more convinced to never take my eyes off the one who says, “I AM HERE” and I want you to do that too. Whether you are in a situation or you know someone who is, ask the question, “Why would you let doubt win?” Jesus has the power – not your circumstances!

Goodbye Royalty,

With Overflowing Love,

Alexandra Zion.
