Guest Post | Let’s Talk: This New Commandment of Love

Hello Royalty!

Today’s post has a slight difference to it, and as you may have guessed from the title, it was not written by me! A friend reached out to me about wanting to share an important message with people, and he wanted to know if this could be done on my blog. P.S: I’ll be referring to the writer as “this person” or “he” or something else, because he wants his identity hidden. Anyway, I particularly like this post because it’s simple, straightforward, and sweet, so I’m just going to let you read:

THE NEW COMMANDMENT John 13:31-35

Let’s have a little exercise. Think about someone you “love” and imagine they are on a horizontal escalator travelling through this beautiful tunnel. The tunnel is so beautiful its difficult not to be distracted by its beauty, but 10 meters ahead, there is a big pit with fire that consumes everything that falls into it.

Imagine watching this from a spot. WHAT WOULD YOU DO? My guess is you would do almost anything to save that person or those people on that path, even if it means you would make them inconvenient for a while if that would help them see what is ahead and eventually get them off that path. Some would do more than what I just said.

What would you say about anyone watching from this spot, who claims to love the person on that moving staircase with the burning pit ahead, and does nothing? I am certain your answer is as good as mine. Such a person does not love whoever it is on that escalator they claim to love.

But would you believe that the latter is the way most of us express love to one another? We cannot claim to love someone and watch them walk on a path that leads to destruction and do nothing about it or claim to love someone and be the very instrument that leads them down that path. Jesus commanded us to love one another even as He has loved us. We are not just to love someone or a group of people, WE ARE TO LOVE EVERYONE JUST AS WE WOULD LOVE OURSELVES

Let’s apply this in a popular misunderstood area of love in our current age. The Bible tells us that we should flee fornication and sexual immoralities (1 Corinthians 6:18). Also, we see from Galatians 5:19 that fornication, adultery, lasciviousness, are all works of the flesh (SIN). We also see from 1 Thessalonians 4:3 that the will of God is for us to abstain from fornication.

Having established the truth from the word of God therefore, it tells us that TRUE LOVE OR THE GOD KIND OF LOVE would keep you from fornication, sexual immoralities and all kinds of sin.

Don’t get it twisted. When you are tempted to sin sexually with your neighbor or yourself, true love would keep you from sinning and not the other way around like the world has taught us today. Otherwise, you are no different than that fellow who claims to love but watches or even leads people down that dangerous path.

In Matthew 22: 36-40. They asked Jesus “Master which is the greatest commandment in the law?” and Jesus told them” Thou shall love thy God with all your heart, soul, and mind and thou shall love thy neighbor as thyself. On these two commandments hang ALL the law and the prophets”

Now ask yourself. Have I been showing the Kind of Love commanded by Jesus?

REMEMBER JESUS IS COMING VERY SOON AND WHEN HE COMES, HE WILL JUDGE THE WORLD ACCORDING TO HIS COMMANDEMENTS.

The good news is that you can begin to walk in this God Kind of love. God has put in us His Holy Spirit and the first fruit of the Holy Spirit is LOVE. Galatians 5: 22-23. We, through His Spirit, can Walk in Love and in the Spirit and not SIN. When we walk in love, we fulfill the law. Just simply ask the Holy Spirit to help you walk in love and in everything you do, ask yourself two things:

  1. Does this show I LOVE God?
  2. Does this show I LOVE my neighbor as myself?

Consciously, BUILD YOUR CONSCIENCE AROUND THESE THINGS

Finally, remember, 1 John 3:18 says “Let us not love in words but in deed and in truth” and how amazing it is that Jesus calls us friends when we love each other. John 15:14.

Shalom.

Fornication: sexual intercourse between people not married to each other
Adultery: voluntary sexual intercourse between a married person and a person who is not their spouse
Lasciviousness: used to describe a person’s behavior that is driven by the thoughts of sex
